The USB Mini-B connector is smaller than standard Type-B and more robust than Micro-B. It is used on many digital cameras, portable music players and external hard drives manufactured over the past 15+ years. This cable is a replacement for bundled cables that break or get lost.
At 480Mbps (USB 2.0 High-Speed), the cable handles common portable device workloads:
Camera tethering & photo transfer: Offload a 32GB memory card full of RAW images (approx. 1,000 photos at 30MB each) in under 12 minutes.
Music sync: Transfer a 10GB music library (approx. 2,500 songs) in under 4 minutes.
External drive backups: Copy a 5GB folder of documents and media to a portable hard drive in under 2 minutes.
The cable carries both power (VBUS) and data (D+/D-), so you can sync and charge at the same time. This is useful for:
Camera tethering: Connect a DSLR to a laptop for live-view shooting while keeping the camera battery topped up.
GPS navigation: Update maps on a Garmin while it charges in the car or at a desk.
Music players: Sync playlists while the device charges overnight.
Field data collection: Keep a digital recorder powered during long interviews or recording sessions.
Mini-B cables are often carried in camera bags, backpacks and glove compartments. This cable is built for daily use:
Overmoulded strain relief extending 25mm from each connector
Nickel-plated brass connector shells
Gold-flashed phosphor bronze contacts
5,000+ insertion/withdrawal cycles confirmed by mechanical testing
Flexible PVC jacket resists kinking and abrasion
Portable devices are often used near wireless interference. Foil + braid shielding provides EMI/RFI rejection, helping to avoid:
Corrupted image files during transfer
Glitchy audio during music sync
Interrupted backups on external drives
Unstable tethering connections in studio shoots
The Mini-B port was the standard for portable devices for over a decade. This cable is compatible with:
Digital Cameras: Canon EOS (Rebel, 5D, 6D, 7D series), Nikon DSLR (D3xxx, D5xxx, D7xxx, D8xx series), Sony Alpha (older models), Pentax, Olympus, Fujifilm X-series (older models), Panasonic Lumix (older)
Portable Music: iPod classic, iPod nano (older generations), SanDisk Sansa, Sony Walkman (digital), Creative Zen, Zune
External Storage: 2.5-inch portable HDDs from WD, Seagate, Toshiba, Hitachi, Samsung (pre-2018 models)
GPS & Navigation: Garmin handhelds (GPSMAP, eTrex series), TomTom car GPS
Voice Recorders & Audio: Zoom H-series (H4n, H5, H6), Tascam DR-series, Sony ICD-series
Others: Older Kindle e-readers, dash cams, baby monitors, digital microscopes, portable projectors, MIDI keyboards, DIY electronics boards (Arduino with Mini-B)
Works with USB 3.0 ports (operates at 2.0 speeds) and USB 1.1 ports. One cable for mixed-device environments.
Photography Studios & Location Shoots: Tether a DSLR to a laptop for live preview, transfer RAW files, and keep the camera battery charged.
Travel & Adventure: Carry a spare Mini-B cable for a camera, GPS and portable drive.
Music & Audio Production: Sync music libraries, transfer field recordings, and connect portable recorders to an editing workstation.
Home & Office Backup: Connect portable external drives to desktop PCs for routine file backups.
Education & Field Research: Use with data loggers, handheld GPS and portable instruments.
Retail & E-commerce: A high-volume accessory for camera stores, electronics retailers and online sellers.
DIY & Electronics: Connect Arduino, Raspberry Pi (older models) and development boards for programming and debugging.
The 5-pin Mini-B includes VBUS (power), D+/D- (data pair) and ground. Gold-flashed phosphor bronze contacts with a minimum insertion rating of 5,000 cycles.
The data lines are tightly twisted (6–8 twists per inch) to minimise crosstalk and maintain signal integrity at 480Mbps.
28 AWG tinned copper conductors provide a low-resistance power path (approximately 0.06Ω per foot). Voltage drop stays under 0.2V at 2.4A.
Aluminium foil provides 100% coverage against high-frequency EMI. The 48-braid tinned copper mesh adds mechanical strength and low-frequency noise rejection.
Every cable undergoes:
Continuity (all 5 pins)
Short-circuit isolation
Hi-Pot insulation (300V DC, >10MΩ)
Resistance (VBUS and ground)
Functional handshake with a USB host
TLD operates under ISO-9001:2015 certified quality management.

A: The Mini-B connector was widely used on digital cameras (Canon/Nikon/Sony DSLRs), portable music players (iPod classic/nano, SanDisk), external 2.5-inch hard drives, GPS handhelds, digital voice recorders and other portable consumer electronics manufactured from the mid-2000s to the late 2010s. If your device has a small, trapezoidal USB port (wider at the bottom), it is likely a Mini-B.
A: No. Mini-B and Micro-B are different connectors. Mini-B is wider and thicker (approximately 10.6mm × 7.5mm). Micro-B is narrower and flatter. They are not interchangeable. This cable is specifically for Mini-B ports.
A: Yes. Canon EOS series (Rebel, 5D, 6D, 7D etc.) and Nikon DSLRs (D3xxx, D5xxx, D7xxx, D8xx etc.) with Mini-B ports will work. You can use it for file transfer, live-view tethering and charging (depending on your camera’s settings).
A: 480 Mbps (USB 2.0 High-Speed). For faster transfers, TLD also offers USB 3.0 Mini-B cables – contact the sales team.
A: Yes. The cable carries both power (VBUS) and data (D+/D-), so you can sync and charge simultaneously.
A: Yes. TLD offers private-label and OEM services – custom colors (black, white, blue, red, pink, etc.), laser engraving on the connector shell, printed branding on the jacket and custom packaging.
